A gallow still hangs at the German-run Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp in Strasbourg, France. It was used to put prisoners to a slow death both as punishment and warning to the other prisoners forced to watch. Flowers placed in memorial by visitors on a crematory furnace; the heat from the burning of the bodies was used to heat the showers for "sanitizing" new prisoners in the next room. Strasbourg's prisoners were worked to near skeletons in stepped quarries on the property and subjected to chemical testing in gas and "medical" chambers.
